Olopua, the endemic Hawaiian olive grows well in full sun below 3500 feet elevation in dry and mesic forests on all main islands. Resistant to wind and drought, olopua grows easily in many environments. The slow-growing small tree produces clusters of white flowers that yield small inedible olives. Its hard wood is beautiful and prized by wood workers for tools and bowls. The seeds have a hard coat and can take 3-5 month to germinate.
